EuroBowl Final Awaits Former Sooner Starter DJ Wolfe

Posted on July 21, 2012

Most Sooner football players will have won a bowl game at some point, maybe even 3 or 4 during their time at the University of Oklahoma. Not many will be able to say they have won one in Europe. That may all change today, when Sooner DJ Wolfe (04-07), a 3 year starter for the Sooners and his Swiss team the Calanda Broncos take on 4 time EuroBowl winners and Austrian powerhouse, the Vienna Vikings. The Vikings won back to back (to back to back) titles from 2004  to 2007, and lost finals in both 2008 and 2010. This is for the most prized trophy in European American Football, and is set to be a great game of Football. Austria is one of the more dominant nations in this competition and the Broncos will, if they win, be the first Swiss winners ever. Austria and Germany have 7 title, Italy 4, UK 3, Netherlands and Finland both have 2, so much at stake for both club and country.

In the semi-finals, Wolfe and the Broncos made the biggest statement a team could make on their intentions, beating last years EuroBowl champions, the Swarco Raiders 35-3. DJ Wolfe, the starting Running Back for the Broncos had a monster game, ran all over the Raiders with a 14.9 yards per carry on his way to 210 yards from only 14 carries. He broke for a huge 70 yard TD early in the second quarter and added his second TD of the game 5 minutes later, this time from 61 yards out. He also recorded 1 reception for 6 yards and 1 tackle for a 3 yard loss in the victory.

The game is live throughout Europe (not in the UK, typical) and here is a stream link at game time ( which is set at 5pm UK time (11am CST). And lets hope that Sooner DJ Wolfe can put in another top quality performance and help lead the Broncos to their first European Title, and win the EuroBowl. Full updates after the game will be posted here! Get behind one of your own for the day, become a Bronco and hopefully see some history being made for a Sooner in Europe! Wolfe is playing on the Red team and is #32, starting RB and Safety.
